# Automation

Once automation is set up, *Swipetimes* can start and stop tracking on its own, without you opening the app. There are four ways to trigger it:

- **NFC** — set up an NFC tag with a [project]({{< relref "projects.md" >}})'s information, then just hold your phone against the tag.
- **Wi-Fi automation** — connecting to or disconnecting from a Wi-Fi network can start or stop tracking.
- **Bluetooth automation** — the same idea, triggered by connecting to or disconnecting from a Bluetooth device.
- **Location** — entering or leaving a defined area triggers tracking automatically.
